How To Make a College Football Recruiting Hot List

Do you have a college football hot list? What is a hot list? A hot list, as I call it, is a checklist of all the colleges you are interested in attending with details of each school. This list can be designed specifically for football or can be designed exclusively for academics. I would recommend creating the list with columns in a program such as Microsoft Excel. The main thing to remember when creating & maintaining your hot list is to take detailed notes of every phone call, e-mail, letter, conversation, and important details about the college.

It would also be a good idea to make a "Likes/Dislikes" list which you would simply list the things you like most about a particular school or football program and the things you don't like which should help you weigh your options. Examples for your Likes/Dislikes list would be you don't like cold weather, want to stay close to home, didn't like a coach, school too big, school too small, too many kickers to compete with, not offering a scholarship, etc.

Staying organized is the key to managing your choices and narrowing down your schools of interest to find the best school fit for you. Here is an example of a college football hot list:

It's important to remember that there are rules that you must abide by in order to remain compliant with the NCAA and its recruiting rules & regulations. A lot of changes have taken place over the past few years such as college coaches cannot attend kicking camps to scout for talent, coaches are not allowed to directly contact a high school athlete until a certain time, and some other important rules that you, your high school coaches, and your parents must understand and follow.
